Being a one-stop service provider, Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (Public Organization) : GISTDA, under the supervision of the Minister of Science and Technology, has been playing a significant role in direct reception of the earth observation satellite signals, data archiving and processing, image analysis, provision of satellite data and GIS services in various forms, providing technical support, space technology research and development. GISTDA also acts as the national focal point in the field of Remote Sensing/GIS in Thailand. Transfer of geo-information technologies is another main task of GISTDA to promote the use of technologies among the users both from the government and private entities. Besides, opportunities for short and long term training and visits especially for scientists and scholars from neighboring countries to share experiences and knowledge are also welcome.
Satellite Remote Sensing Data Service
Thailand ground receiving station is located at Lat Krabang, Bangkok and has been in operation since 1982 with its footprint covering 17 countries comprising the southern part of China, Taiwan, the Philippines, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, the eastern part of India, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei Darussalam and Thailand.
In addition, GISTDA is granted by GeoEye and DigitalGlobe to be a Reseller of GeoEye's products as well as QuickBird and WorldView data subsequently in the Territory of Thailand. Furthermore, through the cooperation with Japan, GISTDA receive 2.5-meter resolution data of ALOS satellite and become a data sub-node for ASEAN.
Presently, GISTDA provides LANDSAT, SPOT, RARARSAT, TERRA/AQUA (MODIS only), ALOS and Thaichote as standard and value-added products in various media and scales.
GIS Data Service
Through the Geo-Informatics Center, GISTDA provides research and development, technical and educational services in remote sensing and geo-informatics. It is also the organization responsible for developing common standards for remote sensing and geo-informatics systema in Thailand.
Training and Technical Support
Transfer of space and geo-information technologies is another important task of GISTDA in order to increase awareness and promote the use of technologies among the users both from the government and private entities. This is done through organization of RS & GIS training courses, seminars, workshops and conferences at national and international levels. There are also opportunities for scientists and scholars to have short or long term visits to GISTDA to share experiences and exchange of knowledge.
