The Group of Discover Thai Astronaut Scholarship Year 3 Youths and Representatives
Greeted Dr. Pakorn Apaphant, the director of GISTDA, after their return from NASA Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama, USA during April 21 to May 1, 2022. Dr. Apaphant congratulated and provided the youths guidelines of life-long learning plans in creating and preparing human resources for future space, and discussed other related topics.
In cooperation with a number of government and private organizations, GISTDA has continued the Discover Thai Astronaut Scholarship, Year 3, by selecting Thai youth representatives to participate an international space camp located in U.S. Space and Rocket Center (USSRC) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Huntsville, Alabama, the United States of America. Four youths are funded by organizations with one of them powered by GISTDA: Miss Chanisa Prompattanapakdi from Kamnoetvidja School, the only Thai youth who receives the Medal of Honor from U.S. Space & Rocket Center and NASA Visitor Center.
Mr. Krit Kunplin, the ambassador of USSRC Thailand and DTAS operator, gave a summarized speech regarding the expedition and youths’ journey that could be divided into 2 key missions. The first mission is the basic study on space exploration of the Discover Thai Astronaut Scholarship (DTAS) Year 3 students, while the second mission is the STEAM-Space cooperation negotiation with NASA and USSRC, the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH), George C. Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC), and Science Coordination Center in collaboration between NASA and United State Agency for International Development (USAID), SERVIR NASA operation by Thai STREAM-Space team. The second mission also covers personnel exchange offers including officer exchange and intern exchange to the STEAM-Space highlight institutions in the United States of America, the international projects on both Earth-Sky-Space and Earth KAMs, and, finally, with collaboration from leading USA STEAM-Space institutions, the projects on training Thai people on STEAM-Space in different levels: high school, undergraduate, and professional.
The director of GISTDA also complimented the youth group and all supporters for being a part of the force driving the space mission, before summarizing the guidelines on continuing this operation. Other missions of GISTDA include promoting New Space Economy and the national space mission according to the national policy on knowledge accessibility and driving the opportunity to reality because “the space is the chance of the nation.”
